Summer Acute Care for Faculty/Staff
Baylor University Health Services is pleased to offer acute care services to faculty & staff during the Minimester, Summer I, and Summer II semesters.
To make an appointment, faculty and staff can log into the health portal and make an appointment for an Urgent Care Visit, call 254-710-1010, or speak with the front desk in person at the Health Center.
We can address ailments such as cold symptoms, sore throat, cough, sinus pressure, nausea, diarrhea, minor injuries to arms/legs, etc., asthma flare ups, UTIs, pink eye, and rashes. Additionally, whether you're traveling abroad for research, a mission trip, or vacation, faculty and staff can be seen for travel visits.
Please note the following caveats:
- Acute care appointments will only be available to employees over the Summer. BUHS is not a replacement for your primary care provider, and cannot offer any meaningful management of chronic conditions. (Immunizations will remain available to employees year-round.)
- BUHS cannot see employees for acute chest pain or respiratory distress. If you are experiencing these symptoms, please seek treatment at the nearest emergency room.
- BUHS is not a Medicare provider.
FAQs
Acute Care is medical care provided for either a non-emergent flare of chronic disease (asthma, allergies, etc) or an acute illness of some sort (skin infection, lung infection, sinus infection, nausea and vomiting, suspected UTI, etc.) Acute chest pain, obvious fractures or musculoskeletal injuries with obvious deformities and mental health crises are not presentations we can address safely here at the Health Center so those should be routed to the nearest emergency room.
The portal is an electronic patient interface accessed via the yellow "Health Portal Login" link at the top right corner of the Health Services landing page. It allows the patient/prospective patient to utilize the Health Center's electronic medical record, Pointnclick, to make an appointment and correspond with Health Center clinicians.
Anyone with a current BUID is able to access the Health Portal.
No--we understand any hesitancy to engage in the electronic context--please call us at 254-710-1010 and we're happy to schedule appointments over the phone and answer questions.
Summer Acute Care services are currently only planned for faculty and staff. However, we are able and willing to perform sports physicals for dependents aged 12+ with a current Baylor ID.
We are able to accept most insurances with the current exceptions of Tricare, Medicare, and Medicaid.
Faculty & Staff can call us at 254-710-1010 to arrange a travel visit. We'll ask where you're traveling, your departure & return dates, and best contact info, and our travel nurse will give you a call back to schedule!
